The Weekly All-Around
Week 9, 2025
Stanford Dominates Twice
In certainly their best day of the season, #2 Stanford proved why they are the five-time defending National Champs. They hosted the Stanford Collegiate International, a competition between elite, international, and NCAA athletes. Team USA was victorious, though its team members consisted of only Stanford athletes: Asher Hong, Riley Loos, Taylor Burkhardt, Colt Walker, Kai Uemura, and Kiran Mandava. In years past, Stanford competing in these competitions usually led to these National Team athletes representing Stanford shortly afterwards. To put it clearly: Stanford may reach their potential when it matters most - at the end of the season.
Even in this competition without many National Team members, the Stanford NCAA routines were much more impressive than their previous competition, a loss at Penn State. Still remaining in the lineups for the squad included Brandon Ngyuyen, Jeremy Bischoff, and Ian Lasic-Ellis. Week 9 also saw the return of Khoi Young! Young competed on pommel horse in his 2025 debut, performing masterfully on his way to a 14.900. As a team, Stanford reached 325.100, enough to earn a victory over Cal, and the Cardinal’s third-highest team score of the season. Stanford is set to host Cal again this Friday, but which athletes will we see compete?
Season-High in Lincoln
Arguably the most anticipated matchup of the weekend was set to be between #3 Ohio State traveling to #7 Nebraska, and what a meet we saw! The Cornhuskers pulled off the upset thanks to their usual heavy hitters: Taylor Christopulos, Yanni Chronopoulos, Chase Mondi, and Luke James. Christopulos won horse, Chronopoulos won p-bars, and he shared the rings title with fellow senior teammate Chris Hiser. Pommel horse was a key event for the team on Saturday, as the Huskers held each of the top 3 individual scores and won the event by nearly 2.500 points.
Up next for Nebraska will be a road test at #5 Penn State this Sunday. The Nittany Lions have earned consistent scores each of the last two weekends, 321.750 and 321.350, respectively. Penn State will certainly be hungry on their senior night at Rec Hall. The Huskers have one more scheduled meet at their home venue (Bob Devaney Sports Center), a date with #7 Michigan on March 21st.
ECAC Matchup Thrills
The week 9 slate had another exciting matchup, and one that means a lot heading into the 2025 Conference Championships. Coming into the weekend, it was #9 Navy traveling to #11 William & Mary. The two schools had super close averages all season long, and the trends followed last weekend. The last time these teams had seen each other was a tri-meet with Springfield, and William & Mary earned the crown with a 306.150. That was in January, though, and both of these teams have improved considerably. This time, the Naval Academy earned the victory in a closely-fought battle, with a score of 312.400-311.800. Just six tenths was the difference!
The newly-ranked #8 Midshipmen host #11 Greenville in week 10 before preparing for the USAG Championships and Conference Championships. William & Mary also have their senior night as they host #1 Oklahoma and #11 Greenville. Yes, Greenville will compete twice in week 10! Other matchups this week include a tri-meet between Simpson, Air Force, and Army, Springfield’s senior night, and a huge battle in the B1G as #3 Ohio State hosts #7 Michigan!

About Aiden
Hello gymnastics fans! I’m Aiden and I’m super excited to join the team at TURN as the 'Principal Staff Writer'. I began competing gymnastics at the age of six and immediately fell in love with the sport. I am currently in the midst of my senior season as a competitor, serving my third year as a team captain for the Georgia United GymACT team. Last December, I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, with Sports Media Certification as well. I've already acquired a few years of media experience, working a variety of roles with GymACT, Virtius, and Neutral Deductions. In addition to competing, I am an active women’s team coach at Oconee Gymnastics Center, as well as the Technical Director of the Georgia Men’s Gymnastics Judging Association. Evidently — even though I am competing, coaching, and judging — I can never get enough of this sport, so I’m excited to take this new role as well!
