Team Feature: Puerto Rico with Tommy Ramos
Posted: Jun 21 2015
Puerto Rico will be back in an all grey uniform for the Pan-American Games next month, sticking with the Glamorgan design that has become somewhat iconic for the national team already. The cool grey is beautifully contrasted with a Puerto Rican blue and white design that gradually fades out to the lower torso. The Puerto Rican flag takes center stage balancing the design perfectly, paired with a Puerto Rico text banner on the upper back.
Penn State alum and 2012 Olympic Rings finalist Tommy Ramos took the time during his preparations to answer some questions:
Top 3 Results:
- 2012 Rings Finalist (Olympic Games)
- 2007 Team Champions (Pan-Am Games)
- 2007 Team Champions (NCAA Championships)
Turn: What are the goals for the Pan-Am Games, both as a team and as an individual?
TR: We are focusing on staying healthy first and foremost but secondly to finish in the top 3 teams. My individual goals are focused on rings. I have my eyes fixed on the top 3.
Turn: How are preparations going?
TR: We are pretty ready, working on building our team bond and coherence even further. We don't have any competitions left before Toronto, but we have some internal competitions as final preparations.
Turn: Once your competition in Toronto is over, are you looking forward to watching any of the other 35 sports?
TR: We are focusing on our competition and our competition only, but if I have time to go sightseeing after our meet, I would love to go and support any of my delegation and support Team Puerto Rico.
Turn: If the FIG and your government gave you $2,000,000 to improve the level of gymnastics in your country, how would you spend it?
TR: I would first enhance our national training facility, equipment, and staff. I would then look to help provide economic resources for junior and senior gymnasts to focus on the sport full-time.
