Turn: What are the goals for the Pan-Am Games, both as a team and as an individual?
RC: To put my country's name amongst the best again, by representing Venezuela with honor and of course proudly put my name beside my performance as well. Since this is my last Olympic cycle and I don't have a full team supporting my Olympic dream, my goals are individual ones.
Turn: How are preparations going?
RC:
It's going well, of course my workouts have gotten very intense as the competition approaches. I wanted to go to other competitions before the most important ones such as Pan-Am Games & World Championship, but I only got to recently participate at the World Cup event in Varna, Bulgaria. I didn't get the optimal result there that I was expecting, but I still made my way to the rings final.
Turn: Once your competition in Toronto is over, are you looking forward to watching any of the other 35 sports?
RC: I'd love to go to watch the track and field competitions. I have very good friends that are on the team and it's also a very exciting sport to watch.
Turn: If the FIG and your government gave you $2,000,000 to improve the level of gymnastics in your country, how would you spend it?
RC: Wow that would be a dream came true! In Venezuela right now we have so many needs and so much talent and so many dreams to fulfill. I think I'd spend that money on "rescuing" the Venezuelan Olympic Team, trying to give the athletes over there the opportunity to make their way to gymnastic success and to complete what I started. I believe nothing would make me more proud. I would invest some of that money on the search of new talent and the preparation of a whole new generation to succeed the one before and never let the Venezuelan gymnasts get left behind the best again.
